Who is this course for?

If you're a travel advisor, agency owner, industry supplier or DMO (Destination Management Organization), and would like to leverage media publicity as free marketing, then this course is for you. But first let me ask you – have you ever wondered why some travel companies seem to score tons of free media coverage, while you struggle to be noticed, or haven’t the first clue where to start in generating publicity?

Like you, I’ve watched many entrepreneurs struggle with their marketing. They’re so busy trying to build their business, manage social media, and paid promotions that they have little budget left to hire a publicist with influential media contacts, to secure coverage for them.

As a marketing consultant with 20+ years helping small business owners, I can assure you the challenge is real. Understanding how to select media with an audience well aligned to your ideal customer is one thing, but also how to find and pitch decision makers, secure the interview and then leverage the free publicity, renders it a daunting task for many. Most entrepreneurs I’ve worked with really just want a simple solution. A way to consistently show up in the media for free, and leverage it in their marketing, without spending a dime.

Sound like a pipe dream? It isn’t for those who know the secrets behind publicity.

What's inside?

Travel Industry Publicity Secrets: How to get free media, is a six-module video course that takes you through all the steps and secrets to earning media and publicity, then leveraging it in your marketing without spending a dime. For a bit of time and effort, those contacts and the systems to sustain repeat coverage, will be yours forever! Here’s what is inside:

Module 1 - Free Publicity: why it’s golden and where to get it

Module 2 - How to Connect with Media: secrets to building your media list

Module 3 - How to Pitch Media: crafting the perfect pitch that gets results

Module 4 - The Media Interview: success tips for delivering your message & being invited back

Module 5 - Leveraging Your Coverage: what to do with free publicity

Module 6 – Make Your Own Media: embed your message with authority + reach new audiences

BONUS MODULE: 2024 Media & Marketing Trends

Module 1 introduces you to what free publicity is, and how it differs from paid advertising or sponsored content. You’ll learn why earned media is so valuable, and how it can be leveraged endlessly in your marketing. You’ll be guided through how to research and build your list of potential media vehicles, ensuring their audience is well matched with your target customer. Learning is reinforced with target audience examples for both a travel agency and a travel supplier business. You’ll then get the details you need to brainstorm your list from the areas of: print, radio, TV, podcasts, Facebook groups and YouTube interviews, and e-newsletters, social media, groups and communities via micro influencers.

In Module 2 we look at how to connect you with media you’ve selected, and the secrets to building a personal contacts list. This module also teaches you how to become a sourced expert for reporters, while receiving a steady stream of requests from media outlets worldwide.

In Module 3 you will learn how to craft the perfect pitch that gets results. In addition to dissecting the elements of a great pitch, how to send it, ensure it gets opened, and how to best follow up, you’ll also receive a working template which you can customize. You’ll learn clever ways to become a magnet for media, and how best to monitor for coverage, so you never miss an opportunity to leverage what you have earned.

In Module 4 you’ll learn about the media interview, and tips for delivering your message successfully. We dig into your message system, how to create sound bites and irresistible quotes, including multiple examples specific to the travel industry. You’ll also learn how to look and sound your best, using body language, eye contact and voice to maximize your message.  At the end of this module we dig into the needs of media outlets – to help you understand what the interviewer is thinking and what they want to help better prepare you to become a great guest who will be invited back.

Module 5 content looks at ways to leverage your coverage further as free marketing and publicity, including tips for before, during and after the interview, and creative ideas for extending the life of your coverage.

And finally in Module 6 we look at methods for making your own media – where you become an embedded columnist, contributor or journalist guest, to reach new audiences with authority.

You’ll learn how to select what media vehicles to approach, and some tips and trends around where emerging opportunities can be found for those in the travel industry. This module get down and dirty with specific media suggestions, and tactics to approach them.

Throughout all modules, media suggestions and examples have been presented with the travel industry in mind, making it easier for you to grab ideas and run with them for your own business.

A bonus module has been added to explain 2024 media & marketing trends. There are 5 trends which you're going to want to have on your radar. After identifying the trend and doing a deep dive,  we look at why the trend is happening, and what you should do about it. Discussion and examples are catered to the travel advisor.

FAQ

  • Is this course worth the money?

Frankly, priced at $249 USD it's a steal. That's a fraction of what it would cost to hire a media publicist. The course knowledge, systems you will put in place, and the media list you will build, will be yours forever. That's priceless.

  • Can I find what’s in the course online for free?

Let's face it, you can Google just about anything these days. You can learn a ton watching YouTube videos or listening to podcasts. And there is a lot of written material out there about media and publicity. But there is much less applied specifically to the travel advisor or travel supplier business model.

  • Do I have to be tech savvy to do this?

No. If you can press "play" on the videos and audio, and read through the content posted in each module, you should be good to go. Content set for downloading is easily accessible, and the learning platform used works well used on a laptop, or mobile device. But if you have any issues, help is just an email away.

  • How long will it take to complete the course?

The course is delivered in 6 modules of video, audio, and text-based content. The video lecture modules run about 3 hours, so technically you could get through the material in that time. However, if you are also reading through the notes and stopping to take the time to consider applications to your own business, it will of course take you quite a bit longer. Bottom line? Take the material at your own pace.
